How Utilities Make Money is a four-hour virtual seminar (now available to the general public!) that takes an uncomplicated look at the process of generating revenue and profits as a regulated investor-owned utility. Participants attending this live seminar will leave with a general understanding of how this complex process actually works.

  • What capital investment, sources of capital, and expenses are
  • How ROE is determined
  • How a regulated company makes money
  • What is rate base and rate of return, and how these impact earnings
  • What is a utility's cost of capital and how it affects the revenue requirement
  • What is a rate case, how often does it happen, and why it's so important for regulated utilities
